An Effingham County grand jury has indicted a man for murder in the May stabbing death of a Rincon woman.

Chris Todd Lowery was indicted Monday for one count of murder, two counts of aggravated assault, one count of possession of firearm or knife in the commission of a crime, one count of theft by taking and one count each of financial card transaction theft and fraud.

Authorities allege that Lowery stabbed and killed Linda Schaffer in the kitchen of her Rahn Street home between May 26 and 28, stabbing her repeatedly in the back and torso.

Lowery was initially termed a person of interest. He was arrested by U.S. Marshals in a Marietta, Ohio, hotel parking lot June 1.

Rincon Police contacted Lowery’s family members around May 28 and said Lowery was a person of interest, but none of the family members had seen or heard from Lowery.

The Savannah Task Force enlisted the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Charleston, W.Va., Fugitive Task Force to try to locate Lowery.

When the West Virginia Marshals arrived in Parkersburg, W. Va., they began to check all the motels.

During a canvass of the motels in the area, U.S. Marshals found the 2004 Pontiac Grand Am at a Microtel motel.

Marshals determined which room Lowery was in and were able to arrest him without incident.

Lowery had his bond denied in a hearing July 21.
