The Hans Schmidt German Band is a late addition to the Salzburger Festival at Ebenezer this Monday. The popular six-member band from Charleston, S.C., will perform on the festival grounds by the Savannah River from 1-3:30 p.m.
“This very popular band gives our festival an added dimension — a true German heritage festival is not complete without a little German music,” Georgia Salzburger Society President Noble Boykin.
The band, which has performed at a number of civic functions in Charleston in recent years, is led by Richard “Rick” Karam, who said the band looks forward to coming to Ebenezer to perform at the site of a rich Salzburger and German heritage.
The Euchee delegation from Oklahoma will have an ongoing exhibit on the festival grounds during the day Monday. Among those coming to participate in this year’s Salzburger Fest are Ann Holder, an elderly and respected member of the tribe, and Tamara Wilson who promotes and works for the preservation of the Euchee language. The five-member delegation will be in the church at 2:30 p.m. for a discussion on Euchee culture and history.
