Special needs student from across the county competed in the annual Special Olympics Friday at Effingham County High School.

Events included basketball and bowling, and an inflatable bounce house and face-painting also kept smiles on faces.

During opening ceremonies, ECHS principal Yancy Ford welcomed the students, and Becky Fields, a parent mentor, declared the games open. Desiree Nancy of Effingham County Middle School sang the natonal anthem, and Dylan Wilcox of Ebenezer Middle led the crowd is saying the Special Olympics Oath.

ECHS student volunteers helped run the games throughout the day and included the Youth Advisory Council, Interact Club, JROCT and Donna Holder’s art class.

Lunch was provided by the Sunrise Rotary Club.
