Heidt asks to get a new trial

POSTED: January 27, 2011 10:25 p.m.

A man convicted last month in the double murder of his father and brother is seeking a new trial.

Craig Heidt was found guilty on Dec. 9 of the August 2008 murders of his father Philip Heidt and brother Carey Heidt after a trial that lasted more than a week. He was sentenced earlier this month to two life terms plus 85 years for the murders and nine other crimes.

Craig Heidt, who filed the motion on his own behalf, is asking to have the verdicts and sentences set aside. In his motion, filed Jan. 20, he said the verdict is contrary to the evidence and the verdict is against the weight of the evidence.
