Celebrating Georgia Day

The United Daughters of the Confederacy, Effingham County Hussars, Chapter No. 2285, presented its annual Georgia Day program to Guyton Elementary School fifth graders.

The United Daughters of the Confederacy, Effingham County Hussars, Chapter No. 2285, presented its annual Georgia Day program to Guyton Elementary School fifth graders.

Approximately 125 students were present for the Feb. 11 event. Mary Ann Whatley shared information with the students on the UDC.

Alecia Evans led the group in pledges to the U.S. and Georgia flags. Alicia Brinson discussed the state song, “Georgia On My Mind,” and led the students in singing. Barbara Scott discussed the state’s founding and dressed in period costume.

A duffel bag filled with school supplies was given to a lucky student.
