Teaching pre-kindergarten takes a special kind of person. The two chosen from Effingham County as Bright from the Start state mentor teachers exhibit kindness, creativity, flexibility and genuine love for their students.

“It’s exciting to be a part of something that is cultivating our youngest of minds to be successful in a most important developmental way,” Beverly Browning, a pre-K teacher at South Effingham High School, said of the mentor program and Georgia pre-K.

Browning and Denise VanCleave were two of 35 experienced veteran teachers throughout the state selected by the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning to act as state mentors this year, training and guiding the newest generation of pre-k teachers. With nearly 30 years of teaching experience between them, Browning and VanCleave said they were humbled to be chosen and that they were able to learn as much as they offered.
