Effingham Chamber, arts council announce photography contest

POSTED: March 31, 2011 8:05 p.m.

The Effingham Chamber of Commerce and Effingham Council for the Arts announce a new photography contest.

The new Photography Contest is open to all but subject matter must be of Effingham County.

“We’re very excited about this new photo contest,” said Chamber President Randy Shearouse. “Effingham County is such a beautiful area and I can’t wait to see what kind of photos are entered. I think this will be a great way to show off our county.”

Chamber Director Rick Lott said the new contest is designed to show off the beauty of the area, not just in the short term, but through the next year or so. He said all photos entered into the competition would then be available for use in promoting Effingham County by the Chamber and IDA.

There are several different categories and entries are $10 each. Five hundred dollars in total prize money will be awarded. A prize of $25 will be awarded to  the best photo in each category and in addition, $200 will be awarded to the first place overall photo, $75 to the second overall, and $50 to third place overall. Entries will be accepted through April 29 and a reception for the photographers will be held on May 8 at the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce. Works will be exhibited at the Chamber through the month of May.

Applications may be obtained at the Effingham Chamber of Commerce, by mail at P.O. Box 1078, Springfield, GA 31329, or by email: ricklott@effinghamcounty.com. For more information contact Lott at 754-3301.
