GSU launching OSHA seminar series

POSTED: August 1, 2011 5:50 p.m.

Georgia Southern University will launch a series of workplace health and safety training seminars in Savannah and Statesboro this summer and fall.

Participants in each Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) themed session will learn workplace safety regulations that are top need-to-know issues for business owners, human resource managers, and safety personnel.

Starting with “OSHA Hazard Communication Standard” at the Coastal Georgia Center in Savannah on Aug. 24, each two-hour seminar in the series will cover the regulations and requirements concerning  a single workplace safety issue. Each seminar fee is $75, reduced to $65 each for three or more from a single firm. Participants may register for any seminar in the series by calling toll-free 855-478-5551.

Running 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Coastal Georgia Center, the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard seminar will cover OSHA requirements in determining hazards and preparing labels and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). Participants will also be briefed on how to meet standards in written hazard communication, employee information, and recordkeeping.

OSHA has tentatively reported that a change may be made in the MSDS format in August. If this is the case, the change will be included in the seminar handouts.

Instructor Chris Marsh, M.Ed. has been an authorized OSHA trainer in General Industry since 2002. For each seminar, he will provide participants with an OSHA completion certificate, useful in case of an audit or for personnel training records.

Two recertification credit hours will be provided to participants in any of the University’s OSHA seminars who are certified as a Professional in Human Resources, Senior PHR or Global PHR.

Other upcoming series topics include OSHA Injury and Illness Recordkeeping, OSHA Making the Business Case for Safety, OSHA Evacuation Plans and Procedures, and OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard.
