The official state portrait of the first constitutional governor in the state of Georgia, John Adam Treutlen, is hanging in the courtroom of the recently restored Effingham Courthouse. The portrait is on loan from the State Capitol Museum in Atlanta.

Treutlen was reared and educated in the Ebenezer orphanage. He became a leader of the Ebenezer community, a state representative, an outstanding patriot and governor of the fledgling state.

The unveiling is set for Saturday at 2 p.m.  A special invitation is given to those citizens who are descendants of Gov. Treutlen. The courthouse will be open to the public for this event for the public to see and appreciate the restored “Temple of Justice,” as it was referred to when the plan was made to build the courthouse.
