Nathan Wilson, Exploring captain of the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Exploring post, received recognition from Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie on June 5 for participating in the Exploring Program for the last three years.

“Wilson, a recent graduate of Effingham County High School, joined the Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Exploring Program at the beginning of his sophomore year and excelled every year in his training,” Sgt. Ramsey Mannon, lead advisor, said.

In addition to training, Wilson provided additional manpower to the Sheriff’s Office in areas of traffic control for parades, search and rescue events, and community crime prevention training events, such as Neighborhood Watch meetings.

The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) Law Enforcement Exploring Program is a career education program for young men and women. Exploring is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between the Explorer and the sponsoring law enforcement agency. Law enforcement agencies initiate an Explorer post by matching their people and program resources to the interests of young people in the community. The result is a program of activities that helps youth pursue their special interests, grow, and develop.

For any young person between the ages of 15-20 and interested in a career law enforcement field, the ECSO Exploring Post meets every other Tuesday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office. Training has concluded for the summer, but applications for membership will be accepted throughout the summer.

Applicants must not have any criminal record and must maintain a C average or above while enrolled in a home, public or private school. There are some costs for a uniform. For meeting dates, check the training calendar at http://www.effinghamsheriff.org/divisions/exploring.aspx.

For more information or to request an application for membership, e-mail Sgt. Mannon, rmannon@effinghamcounty.org.
