Thirty-nine FFA members from South Effingham High School, South Effingham Middle School, Ebenezer Middle School and Effingham County Middle School were part of more than 2,400 students who attended FFA-FCCLA Summer Leadership Camp 2012 at the Georgia FFA-FCCLA Center in Covington.

Summer Leadership Camp was a week filled with activities and leadership opportunities. Camp activities included volleyball, softball, a swim meet, a fishing tournament, skeet and archery shooting, low ropes course, climbing wall, zip line, the BLOB and much more. On the last night of camp, students participated in a bran- new mud obstacle vourse.

The Effingham County FFA chapters collected multiple wins while at Summer Leadership Camp. Both the boys’ and the girls’ teams won the assembly challenge. The girls’ team won the volleyball tournament, and the boys’ team won the obstacle course challenge. Teams competed in various competitions and activities throughout the week, most of which participants could earn points for their team. The team with the most points earned the title of "team of the week." Both the boys’ and girls’ teams were runner-up for Competition Team of the Week. At the end of the week, each team voted for the team that they felt best exhibits the ideals of Summer Leadership Camp, such as sportsmanship, teamwork, team spirit, positive attitude, and cooperation. The girls’ team won Leadership Team of the Week.

"Summer Leadership Camp is about teaching students various tools of success while they have the time of their life. The teachers and staff invest so much time to make sure these youth have an experience that they will never forget," said Todd Teasley, camp director.

The Georgia FFA/FCCLA Center is located near Covington, on the banks of Lake Jackson.
