DNR urges tree stand safety for hunting season

POSTED: October 8, 2012 8:38 p.m.

The state Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division, is asking hunters to practice tree stand safety this hunting season. Tree stands are the leading cause of hunting-related incidents in Georgia each year.

Hunters are advised to follow these safety tips:
• Always check the hardware on your tree stand and become familiar with its features prior to hunting from it.
• Always wear a fall arrest system/full body harness, not only while in the stand, but also when climbing into or out of your stand.
• Always stay awake and alert in the stand and never use alcohol or drugs before or while hunting.

For more information on tree stands or hunting-related safety, call the DNR region office at (912) 685-2145 or visit GeorgiaWildlife.com.
