Rotary Club tournament to tee off Saturday

POSTED: April 1, 2013 8:38 p.m.

Local golfers can hit the links while raising money for several causes, in the Rotary Club of Effingham County’s annual golf tournament.

Players and sponsors can still sign up for Rotary’s 2013 Charity Golf Outing, which will be April 6 at Lost Plantation Golf Club in Rincon beginning with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.

According to the Rotary Club, proceeds from the tournament benefit Effingham Special Olympics, Medical Equipment Transport Service, Treutlen House at New Ebenezer, Alzheimer’s research, Rotary’s international program to eliminate polio, scholarships for county high school students and Rotary’s annual high school speech contest in Effingham County.

“We’re looking forward to this golf tournament as a fundraiser that really gives back to the community,” said Tom Matyjasik, president of the Rotary Club of Effingham County.

“The bottom line is that everybody comes out for a good cause,” Matyjasik continued, “but we have a lot of fun while we’re raising money for kids in our county.”

Sponsorships are available ranging from $300-$450, which includes registration for four players. Options are also available for sponsors who don’t play in the tournament, and donations of any amount also will be accepted.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place teams, and to the golfers with the two longest drives and the two closest-to-the-pin shots.

Also, any golfer fortunate enough to score a hole-in-one will earn more than bragging rights. The prize for an ace is a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu from Fuller Chevrolet.

The 18 holes of golf will be followed by lunch and a “19th hole celebration” with the awards presentations, raffles and a silent auction.

“There will be a lot of prizes and a lot of fun,” Matyjasik said.
