The Effingham County 4-H shotgun team competed in the 2013 state 4-H modified trap competition at Rock Eagle 4-H Center on May 11.  There were approximately 900 shooters from across the state competing at the match.

Effingham County was well-represented at the state level with a senior team consisting of Logan Conaway, Trent Dickerson, Alexis Floyd, Bradley Hall, Chandler Parker, Natalie Starling, Layton Stone, Harrold Wheeler, Brandon Woods and Kyle Zeigler, and the junior team made up of Joshua Carroll, Nolan Dasher, Dylan Gale and Grace Kieffer.

Several members of the team also participated in the trap and skeet competition held at the Forest City Gun Club in Savannah on June 1.  Participating in this event were Alexis Floyd, Trent Dickerson, Douglas Williams, Grace Kieffer, Joshua Carroll, Nolan Dasher and Dylan Gale.

The 2013 team was coached by Wade Floyd, Roy Callaway, Doug Williams, Leslie and Henry Dickerson and John Callaway. The Extension Office would like to offer thanks to Roberts Shooting Preserve for providing practice facilities for the 4-H target sports team.

The Georgia 4-H Shooting Awareness, Fun and Education (SAFE) Program is sponsored by the Georgia 4-H Foundation as an educational program developed to complement and enhance the impact of existing safety, shooting and hunter education programs using experiential methods and progressive development of skills and abilities.

This program helps 4-H’ers to learn responsible and safe use of firearms including sound decision-making, self-discipline and concentration and has strong links to natural resources, wildlife, outdoor recreation and safety.  Each team member is required to successfully complete the Georgia Hunter Safety Program.
