POSTED: July 22, 2013 6:01 p.m.

People in the community are invited to put on their running shoes and support the Treutlen House at New Ebenezer.

The inaugural Summer’s End 5K Trail Run to benefit the Treutlen House is set for Aug. 17, starting at 8 a.m.

Runners can register online at www.fleetfeetsavannah.com. Registration is $25 through Aug. 16 and $30 on race day.

All proceeds will benefit Treutlen House at New Ebenezer, a group home for boys in the foster-care system.

Participants can pick up their packets between 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Aug. 16 at Fleet Feet of Savannah or starting at 7 a.m. on Aug. 17 at the Treutlen House at New Ebenezer. The race starts at 8 a.m.

Runners will take a scenic 5K trail run (cross-country style) down to the Savannah River and through historical sites at the New Ebenezer Family Retreat Center. The family-friendly day will also include music, water slides, corn hole games, food and refreshments.

The Treutlen House at New Ebenezer is a community-based, ecumenical ministry for young people who have been estranged from their families due to neglect, abuse and/or abandonment.

According to its mission statement, “Through Christian nurture, education, love, counsel, and prayer, the Treutlen House programs will lead young people in crisis to a wholeness in spirit, mind, and body, so that they may be more productive to themselves, their families, their community and their world.”
