America’s Second Harvest Food Bank delivered a truckload of help Thursday to Effingham County families in need.

An America’s Second Harvest tractor trailer rolled up to the Effingham County Recreation Department Gym with 7,200 pounds of food.

The mobile food pantry comes to Effingham twice a year through the Emergency Food Assistance Program to assist income-qualifying families in the community.

Two hundred fifty-five families received a total of three bags per household.

The bags contained chicken, bread, carrots, black-eyed peas, soup, beans, peaches, peanut butter, potato wedges, instant mashed potatoes, raisins and grapefruit juice.

Archie Jenkins, program coordinator for the United Way Effingham Food OutReach Co-op of Effingham (FORCE) program, coordinated the distribution of the food.

Approximately 20 local volunteers and United Way Effingham staff members assisted in the compiling and distributing of the bags.
