SHRM chapter earns state, national recogntion

The Savannah Area Chapter of the Society of Human Resource Management   members were recognized and awarded for their programs as part of the “ERASE The Threat” series.


The series was a collaborative effort between the Savannah Area Chapter of SHRM, the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, Effingham County Board of Commissioner’s Human Resources Department, Effingham County EMA and Effingham County Fire to assist community organizations and employers in assessing crisis response plans and policies, aligning preparation to correspond efficiently with first responders and law enforcement, and training staff members or volunteers to respond effectively with life saving techniques.


The program consists of six educational presentation options created by Michelle Buchmeyer, investigator with the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office, Lt. Hannah Jenkins of Effingham County Fire, Effingham EMA director Ed Myrick and Rushe Hudzinski, president of the Savannah Area Chapter of SHRM and Effingham County human resources director. The Savannah Area Chapter of SHRM members have conducted more than 60 community presentations, reached 170 organizations including the American Red Cross, Bryan County Chamber of Commerce, DIRTT, Dixie-Ply, Effingham Rotary, Georgia Ports Authority, IKEA, Mitsubishi Power Systems, Target, TICO, and United Way, certified trainers state wide, and offered training at no cost for the participants.


Jenkins was awarded Fire Educator of the Year, Georgia State Firefighters Association for her programs: Tornadoes, Explosions & Millions; OH MY! Corporate Social Responsibility via Strategic Insight on Risk Management and ROI: Strategically Talking Money and Making CSR Sense.


Eli Vandiver received a nomination for Firefighter of the Year, Georgia State Firefighters Association for his event support of the “ERASE The Threat" series.


Buchmeyer received a 2013 Best of Georgia nomination and qualified for national award review as a current top 25 finalist for the Society of Human Resource Management Pinnacle Awards for her program Out of the Dark: Corporate Social Responsibility by Confronting Employee Domestic Violence.


All the “ERASE The Threat” series presentations offer recertification hours through Human Resource Certification Institute and the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training for levels 1-5.
