MLK Day events set

South Effingham High School student Christopher Stephan Housey was the first place winner in the theme entries for the 2008 Martin Luther King Jr. Day observance.

Housey’s winning entry was “One Man, One Dream, One Vision, the Legacy Continues.”

Jonathan Martin Savarese of Ebenezer Middle School was the second place winner with “The Past, The Dream, The Future,” and Jason Michael Thorton of Guyton Elementary won third place with “MLK: The Man, The Life, The Vision.” Jordon Brooke Feider of Sand Hill Elementary won honorable mention for “Dream the Dream, Change the World.”

Bishop S.O. Bulloch of Grace Full Gospel Ministries will be the speaker Jan. 12 at 6 p.m. at the Pilgrim Association in Guyton. Tickets for adults are $15 and $7.50 for children. For more information, call Lon Harden at 772-3505 or Rosetta Gordo at 772-3061.

The MLK Day observance will be held Jan. 21 at the county administrative complex at 7:30 a.m.

The annual parade will start at 10 a.m., with lineup at 9:30 a.m. All churches, civic groups and any one wanting to join the parade are welcome. The parade will start at the ballpark behind Walt’s Furniture and end at the fairgrounds.

The noonday children service will be held at the recreation department gym. All awards of the themes, essays and posters will be given at the program.

The closing night services will be held at the New Hope A.M.E Church in Guyton at 6 p.m.
