POSTED: December 2, 2013 8:37 p.m.

The Effingham County Health Department, in partnership with the Georgia Department of Public Safety, will hold a Toys for Tots toy drive at the Fred’s store in Rincon on Dec. 7 from 10 a.m.-noon.

A free car seat safety check will be held at the same time in the same location. Certified child passenger safety technicians will be on hand to teach parents and caregivers how to choose the right car seats for their children and how to install them correctly.

This the fifth year state troopers, along with officers with the Capitol Police and the department’s Motor Carrier Compliance Division, have joined the Marine Corps Reserve to collect toys for needy children during the holiday season.

This also marks Effingham County Health Department’s first year of involvement.

Toys donated to the Toys for Tots program should be new and unwrapped. Toys also can be dropped off throughout the holiday season between 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Georgia State Patrol at 2792 Highway 21 South in Rincon and the Effingham County Health Department at 768 Highway 119 South in Springfield.
