POSTED: January 16, 2014 2:33 p.m.

The Rotary Club of Effingham County is taking nominations for its annual Volunteer of the Year award.

All service agencies/organizations in Effingham County (excluding churches and service clubs) are encouraged to submit a nominee who excels at the Rotary challenge of “service above self” and deserves to be recognized.

Rotary will host its 12th annual Herb Jones Volunteer of the Year Award banquet Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. at the New Ebenezer Retreat Center. Each volunteer will receive a certificate of appreciation.

Each agency/organization submitting a nomination is eligible to receive four complimentary tickets to the award banquet. Additional tickets are $13.50 per person and must be paid for by Jan. 30.

Nomination forms are available on the club’s Web site, All nominations must be submitted by Jan. 22.

A panel of judges will select the Volunteer of the Year, first runner-up and second runner-up. Those three honorees will receive personalized plaques, and the Rotary Club of Effingham County will give checks to the agencies with whom they volunteer.
