Locals in the pros, colleges update

Josh Reddick (Oakland Athletics) — The former SEHS star is already in camp with the A’s and he avoided an arbitartion hearing Wednesday by signing a one-year, $2.7 million deal with the club.

Colleges
Baseball
Cal Baker (Georgia Southern University) — Baker is a freshman infielder for the Eagles, who are 2-1.
Ryan Frederick (GSU) — Frederick didn’t get the win but he struck out two over 2 2/3 innings Sunday in his first start in two seasons as the Eagles routed Georgia 18-4. Frederick allowed two earned runs on four hits and three walks.
Eric Knox (Georgia Tech) — Knox is a freshman outfielder for the Yellow Jackets, who are 1-2. Georgia Tech visits Georgia Southern on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Jesse Whaley (Andrew College) — Whaley has pitched in two games for the Tigers, going 0-1 with three earned runs on three walks in 1 2/3 innings.
Andrew Martin (East Georgia State College) — Martin is 1-0, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks in four innings of his first start this season for the Bobcats (4-0).
Spencer Harvey (Middle Georgia State College) — Harvey is 1-for-5 with two RBIs in two games for the Knights, who are 6-2.
Kyle Ward (Georgia College and State University) — Ward struck out three and gave up one hit in his first inning of work for the Bobcats, who are 4-1 after splitting the first two games with No. 1-ranked Tampa.
Dylan Griffin (Georgia Southwestern State University) — A freshman catcher, Griffin is 1-for-1 for the Hurricanes, who are 3-6.
Zack Smith (Georgia Southwestern State University) — Smith has logged six innings over three appearances, allowing five earned runs on 11 hits while striking out five.
Stephen Vaughn (Missouri Southern State University) — The senior right-hander has pitched in three games for the Lions, striking out seven and walking two over three no-hit innings.

Men’s basketball
Demontrez Austin (South Georgia State College) — Austin is averaging 4.8 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. South Georgia is 15-10 for the season and 8-7 in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Conference.
T.J. Rines (South Georgia) — Rines has appeared in 24 games and is averaging 2.4 and 1.9 assists per game.
Jay Wright (Casper College) — Wright is averaging 15.4 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game for the Thunderbirds (16-10).
DeQuincey Bennett (Johnson and Wales University) — The former ECHS Rebel is averaging 16 points per game to go with 3.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.5 steals per game.
Alex Reid (Georgia College and State University) — Reid has appeared in 16 games and is averaging 2.1 points per game for the Bobcats (8-12).

Women’s basketball
Hannah Anderson (Converse College) — Anderson had eight points and six rebounds in a loss to Lees-McRae.
Amy Jameson (College of Coastal Georgia) — Jameson is averaging 2.7 points and 2.2 rebounds per game for the Lady Mariners, who are 21-4.

Softball
Alexis Mercer (Armstrong Atlantic State University) — Mercer is hitting .484 with six home runs and 15 RBIs for the Pirates (7-3). She also leads the team in doubles (five), hits (15) and runs scored (15).
Shelby Zipperer (University of South Carolina-Beaufort) — Zipperer, a junior outfielder, is 8-for-29 with two doubles, two homers and six RBIs for the Sand Sharks (8-2).
Maddie Evans (Reinhardt University) — Evans is a freshman infielder for the Eagles.
Katie Rietkovich (Reinhardt University) — Rietkovich has one hit, a solo home run, in her first seven at-bats for the Eagles.
