School board gives Shearouse a 3-year extension

POSTED: December 26, 2008 5:00 a.m.

The Effingham County Board of Education extended Superintendent Randy Shearouse’s contract for three years on Wednesday.

“We are very happy with him,” board chairperson James Dasher said. “He does a wonderful job. He has the best interest of the school system at heart.”

He said Shearouse does not make “knee jerk” discussions, and instead educates himself and makes sure to get all the sides of a problem before making a decision.

“I think he does a great job weighing both sides of the story,” Dasher said. “He has innovative ideas to not just keep the school system on track, but to improve.”

He said the improvement in test scores during the past couple of years can be attributed to Shearouse, and the leadership he has provided in the system.

“He’s doing a super job,” Dasher said.

Shearouse, an Effingham County native who began his teaching career in Effingham schools in 1988, has been the school system’s superintendent since July 2005. He spent 10 years as a principal before being named superintendent.
