Jeremy Hill, a senior at Effingham County High School, won the State FFA-EMC Electrification Contest at Camp FFA in Covington on  Jan. 10.

He scored 91 percent and defeated 11 competitors who had placed either first or second at their respective area competition in December.

The competition is a three part competition. The first part is the actual wiring competition. This year’s wiring problem involved two lights, several 3-way switches, a ground fault outlet and ground fault protected outlet, as well as service entry panel for all of these. This is a timed problem. The participants are given 30 minutes planning time and 60 minutes of working time.

The second part is a 30 question test and the third part is a four to six minute speech about a specific electrical problem.

The local competition is held in December in the six districts and then the first and second place finishers from each district come together in Covington to compete for the $1,000 scholarship.

Hill placed third at the state competition last year.
