GSU offers short course for fiber optics technicians

POSTED: October 15, 2009 7:33 p.m.

First-come, first-registered is the rule for future fiber optics technicians taking Georgia Southern University’s three limited-enrollment short courses this fall in Savannah.

Limited to no more than a dozen students, each two-day or three-day fiber optic course trains participants to install, terminate and test an actual fiber optics network in class.

Running from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. daily, each class ends with a Fiber Optics Association certification exam, given and graded at the end of class.

The entry-level Certified Fiber Optics Technician (CFOT) course will be held Nov. 30-Dec. 2 at the Coastal Georgia Center in Savannah. Students complete the $700 course by taking the CFOT exam.

To register, call (912) 478-5551 or visit http://ceps.georgiasouthern.edu/conted/fiberoptics.html.
