South Effingham High Art students showed off their talents at the fall art show organized by art teacher Mary Cale Anderegg.

The show included both two-dimensional and three-dimensional pieces including both sculptures and functional ceramic pieces. With more than 80 students participating in the show, the awards judging for Principal Dr. Mark Winters and Springfield Elementary Art Teacher Mary Edmundson was not easy.

“This was tough,” Edmundson said. “There’s a lot of great art. This is a lot of hard work and talented kids. It’s a challenge to choose the best one in each class.”

Best in Show award went to senior Kane Smith for his charcoal rendering of hands. Smith said his piece, one of several in the show, took him about three days to finish.

The Principal’s Choice Award was split between two winners and went to Rebecca Mitchem for her 2D “shoe,” and Daniete Owens for her monoprint. Best Painting went to Ashley Hillman, Best Drawing to Lauren McNeil, Best Print or Mixed media went to Melanie Rickman, Best Pottery to Elizabeth Hayden and Best Sculpture went to Daniel Stephens. Best 2D design went to Chad Fetzer, who also took the Most Expressive. Most Creative went to Jimmy Fletcher and Most Realistic went to Victoria Burke. Best use of color went to Molly Bailey, and Best Abstract went to Maggie Aurelo while Kathryn Daniel got Best Composition.

Anderegg said there was more art in this fall show than was presented last year in the only show of the year.
