GSU to host seminar on teaching better writing

POSTED: January 15, 2010 9:12 a.m.

Georgia Southern University’s “Student Success in First-Year Composition Conference” next month will bring high school English teachers and writing professors together to discuss how they help students become competent academic writers.

Set on Feb. 5 on the GSU campus, the day-long conference includes the Golden Award for dedication to teaching excellence in first-year college composition or to the preparation of students for first-year composition. Principals, department heads and co-workers may nominate their choice of writing instructor at the high school or college level to receive the Golden Award. Details should include the nominee’s quality of instruction and significant contribution (beyond the classroom) to his or her school. The deadline is 5 p.m. on Jan. 29.

Refreshments and a meal are included in the day-long conference’s registration fee of $70. A $15 late-registration fee will be charged after Jan. 19, and conference registration closes on Jan. 29.

To submit a Golden Award nomination or register for the conference, visit http://ceps.georgiasouthern.edu/conted/SSFYC or call (912) 478-5551.
