ECHS ag mechanics team captures area FFA event

The FFA Agricultural Mechanics Team from Effingham County High School placed first in the Area IV competition against 12 other teams. Team members are: Skyler Jones, Jesse Edwards, Dillon Youngblood and T. J. Smith. Pictured with the team is Dr. Freddie Waltz, agricultural mechanics teacher at ECHS. The team will now go on to compete in the state event in March.

The Effingham County High School FFA Agricultural Mechanics Team recently won the Area IV FFA Agricultural Mechanics Career Development Event held at Johnson County High School on Feb. 9.

Team members Dillon Youngblood, T. J. Smith, Skyler Jones and Jesse Edwards will participate in state competition on March 20 at the State FFA/FCCLA Camp in Covington.  

The team participated in individual problem solving and skill development activities and took a written examination. The event included subject matter associated with Welding and Cutting, Electrical Wiring and Small Engines. Youngblood was the high scoring individual in the event, Jones was second high individual and Edwards was third high individual.

FFA is a national organization of over 449,000 members preparing for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture. FFA is an integral part of the agricultural education program in public schools.

The FFA mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.

Dr. Freddie Waltz, CJ Satterfield and Meredith Carey are Effingham County High FFA advisors. The Agricultural Mechanics Career Development Event is sponsored by Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College as a special project of the Georgia FFA Foundation.
