Turkey season opens Saturday
The opening day of the Georgia turkey hunting season is Saturday and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources' Wildlife Resources Division anticipates that the 2011 season should be fair, with harvest likely down from the 2010 season. Statistics from the 2010 season harvest summary indicate that an estimated 47,275 resident Georgia hunters bagged 34,001 turkeys last year.
Middle schools to stage ALS benefit
Ebenezer, Effingham and South Effingham middle schools are partnering to play the first Middle School Baseball Benefit for ALS.
EMS takes the title
The Ebenezer Middle School girls basketball team won the Coastal Empire Regional Championship held Jan. 22 at Langston Chapel in Statesboro. The Lady Eagles defeated South Effingham 55-39.
Raiders roll to title
The U12 Rincon Raiders won first place in the 2nd Annual Jacan Brown Soccer Classic at Sand Hill Park in November. The Raiders went undefeated in the tournament, winning all four games. They played their regular season in the Savannah league and finished the season with a 5-2 record. Coaches were Alan Van Sickle and Brian Helmey.
Big season for Bulldogs
The Rincon Bulldogs ended the season by going 4-0 in the jamboree and 8-2 in the regular season for a 12-2 total record. Noah Foley was the leading scorer with 37 goals, followed by Jonny Robinson with 10 goals and Emily Robinson, who had eight goals. Anthony Ashe was the goalie for the team. Southern Anglers Challenge tournament trail held its December tournament out of Stokes Bluff Landing on Dec. 18, 2010. Twenty-three teams participated with 18 teams bringing a limit of five bass to the scales.
