Zittrouer first in livestock show

On July 23 and 24 the Georgia Limousin Association held its annual Field Day and Livestock Show at the University of Georgia's Livestock Arena in Athens. Macy Zittrouer competed in the livestock judging, and livestock show. In the livestock judging, senior division Zittrouer was the high scorer and was second overall scorer in all divisions (adults and students). In senior showmanship, Zittrouer placed second, and in class, her heifer placed third.

SEHS FFA reels in fun with fishing, ‘Olympics’

The South Effingham High School recently held a fishing tournament and Redneck Olympics Games. The event was held at the University of Georgia Warnell Forestry Center in Guyton on Aug. 21. Locals make Darton merit list

Three Effingham County students have been named to the Merit List at Darton College in Albany for the summer 2010 semester. Robert J. Schmelter of Guyton and Joshua B. Conner and Dana L. Shores of Rincon all earned the honor. To qualify for the merit list, students must be part-time and have earned a 3.4 or higher grade point average.

Business partner chips in for Sand Hill

Thanks to a $1,000 donation from Sit and Sleep, students at Sand Hill Elementary may not even notice that the school's media center budget was cut by $4,000 this year. School board wrestles with Federal Jobs Fund money

As they wait for more information for the state, the Effingham County Board of Education continues to weigh its options for spending the $2.1 million allocated from the federal Education Jobs Fund. School board backs lawsuit

The Effingham County school board has joined a statewide suit against the Georgia Charter School Commission. Nine school districts filed the lawsuit against a law giving the Georgia Charter School Commission control over charter school petitions.
