County to wait on results of ash road tests

POSTED: May 5, 2011 7:58 p.m.

Effingham County commissioners hope to have results next week on tests conducted on potential ash road mixtures.

Commissioners tabled accepting a bid and proceeding with work on one of the county’s most severely damaged ash roads, Forest Haven. Under one bid, from APAC, the unsuitable roadway material would be removed and a new ash mix base would be put in. The cost of that option is about $264,000.

The second option, from Baker Infrastructure Group, would be for a complete rebuilding of the road, removing all the ash from the .9-mile long stretch and putting in a more traditional road base. That cost is almost $292,000.

For the complete story, see Friday's edition of the Effingham Herald.
