ECSO deputy found dead

An Effingham County Sheriff's Office deputy was found dead of an apparent gunshot wound in a vehicle near an ECSO building at approximately 9:15 a.m. today.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called to investigate the scene, authorities said do to the deceased being a deputy sheriff.

The deputy's name has not been released at this time and more details may be available later today.

The cause of death has not been determined. The body will be sent to the GBI crime lab where an autopsy is expected to be conducted tomorrow.
