Candidates’ forum set for Thursday evening

The Effingham County Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a candidates’ forum, to be held Thursday at the Effingham County Board of Education auditorium.


The event will start at 6:30 p.m. Candidates invited to take part include those for state House District 161, county commission chairman at-large, county commission districts 1 and 4, tax commissioner, district attorney and coroner.


A panel will ask questions for the state House and county commission candidates. Each candidate also will be able to make opening and closing statements of no more than two minutes.


Candidates for district attorney, tax commissioner and coroner will have five minutes each for a statement.


Voting in Georgia’s party primaries and nonpartisan elections will be held July 31. Early voting will commence July 9 and the last day to register and be eligible to vote in the general primaries and nonpartisan races is July 2.
