The Effingham Civil Air Patrol Squadron had training in a search and rescue exercise (SAREX) held in St. Simons Island.

The objectives included learning and monitoring the right emergency locator transmitter (ELT) frequency and ensuring the ELT direction finder was being monitored and located. The goal is to have more ground team training to better help locate an ELT from a downed airplane.

The Effingham Civil Air Patrol Squadron, along with the Brunswick Squadron, worked jointly at St. Simons Island Airport and the Brunswick area in operating an ELT locator as well as locating ELTs. Two ground teams and two planes were working together in the search.

For information on the local Civil Air Patrol Squadron, contact Squadron Commander Capt. Richard Bush at (912) 429-8050.
