Rincon narrows chief search down to final four candidates

POSTED: September 13, 2012 7:28 p.m.

Rincon City Council members could make a decision on a new police chief at their next meeting.

Interim City Manager Wesley Corbitt said he expects a final decision to be made in the next few weeks, after the council members present an offer to their final choice. The selectee will be given time to review the contract and ask questions of council before accepting or declining the offer.

The four finalists are James Scott Gray, a lieutenant with the Henry County Police Department with 17 years of experience; Sgt. Phillip Scholl, who has been serving as interim chief and has 16 years of police experience; Rick Gossett, who retired as Bloomingdale chief and has 21 years of police experience and spent 21 years in the Army; and Dean Fagerstrom of the Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department. Fagerstrom has 30 years of experience.

Rincon has been without a police chief since Mike Bohannon was fired in April.
