ECSO issues scam warning

POSTED: January 10, 2013 7:50 p.m.

The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about groups of people who have been reported in the county going door to door soliciting business. Deputies have received reports that people from out of state have been offering to pave residents’ property for them at a low cost.

This has occurred around this time of the year over the past year or two in Effingham County. The ECSO has received several complaints from citizens after they paid for the job that it was incomplete or not done correctly.

ECSO is advising all citizens that if anyone solicits business that they must possess a business license as well as a solicitation permit from the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office.

The permit is free of cost and requires the person to provide a valid ID and pass a background check.
