A Springfield man with a violent criminal history was arrested Thursday night in Liberty County after he was accused of kidnapping a woman, attempting to rob her, and running over her with the van he stole from her.

According to the Effingham County Sheriff's Office, Brandon Peters, 35, was taken into custody around 11 p.m. Thursday. Deputies learned Peters was at a house in Midway, and they notified the Liberty County Sheriff's Office. Liberty deputies arrested Peters, who was returned to Effingham around 1 a.m. Friday. 

“Peters has an extensive criminal history and has served time in prison for armed robbery. We considered him armed and dangerous," said Effingham County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Detective David Ehsanipoor.

According to the ECSO, Peters went into the woman’s house on Deer Road in Springfield around 3 p.m. on Thursday and tied her up with duct tape. He forced the woman into her van and drove to a nearby ATM to attempt to take money from her bank account, Ehsanipoor said.

The woman managed to get out of the van in the bank parking lot, according to investigators. After she fell to the ground, Peters ran over her leg and drove away.

The woman was taken to the hospital and is being treated for “serious injuries,” Ehsanipoor said. Investigators said Peters and the victim know each other.

“She was targeted. This was not a random act,” Ehsanipoor said.

Investigators determined that Peters dumped the van he stole from the kidnapping victim on Race Path Road. He then stole a dump truck and drove it to Liberty County.

Peters is facing multiple charges including aggravated assault, kidnapping, burglary and two counts of theft by taking a motor vehicle. More charges may be added, Ehsanipoor said.

According to Georgia Department of Corrections records, Peters was released in April 2006 after serving 10 years in prison. He was arrested on charges of armed robbery, simple battery, criminal trespassing and entering a vehicle.
