SAVANNAH – An Effingham County man suspected of trafficking drugs was arrested after agents from the Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team surprised him at a Savannah bus station.

CNT agents learned Thursday afternoon that Jonathan Jamall Anderson, 27, of Guyton was headed back to Savannah from Atlanta on a Greyhound bus. Undercover agents met the unsuspecting Anderson at the bus station and found approximately nine ounces of cocaine in his possession, according to CNT Agent Gene Harley.

“He was definitely taken by surprise, and I guess not happy to see us,” Harley said.

Anderson was taken into custody and charged with trafficking cocaine. The cocaine seized from Anderson has an estimated street value of up to $14,400, Harley said.

The investigation into Anderson began earlier this month, Harley said, when “CNT in a working partnership with Savannah-Chatham Metro Police began looking into a suspected drug smuggler said to be bringing large amounts of cocaine into to the Savannah-Chatham area.”

The investigation is ongoing, Harley added.

Anderson remains at the Chatham County Detention Center. He was arraigned Friday in Chatham County Recorder’s Court, where he did not receive a bond.
