Colon health is not often a subject of discussion among women having a night out. But perhaps the subject should come up more often, since according to the National Institute of Health, there were over 100,000 new cases of colon cancer diagnosed in 2011.

The first Effingham Heath System’s Girls Night Out in 2012 will shed the light on colon health, colon cancer and ways to make sure your colon remains healthy January’s Girls Night Out will be held Jan. 24 from 7-9 p.m.at the Effingham Imaging Center, 110 Goshen Rd.

Dr. Travis Wiggins, visiting gastroenterology professional, will focus on how overall good health is often dependent on the health of your colon. Dr. Wiggins will speak about the warning signs and symptoms of colon cancer and other colon disorders as well as provide an overview of the medical screenings and procedures related to keeping your colon healthy.

Women in attendance will leave Girls Night Out with a large amount of information to maintain good health by keeping a healthy colon and will be able to start the conversation about the rarely-talked about subject with other women in their lives.

Faith Jaudon from The Vintage Bee Company will be on hand to talk about beekeeping and the production of honey. Learn first-hand how the sweet treat is created by bees and details about the art of beekeeping.

Girls Night Out always features refreshments and gifts.  Most importantly, women in attendance have a chance to spend a little “me time” while learning valuable health information.
