The Rincon United Methodist Church-sponsored Boy Scout Troop 665 will celebrate its 35th anniversary of camping at the Log Landing Camp on Log Landing Road. The event begins Friday at 6 p.m. and ends Sunday at noon.

The theme for this weekend’s event will be Paul Bunyan. Scouts will be working on receiving their Paul Bunyan award, which will require all recipients to have first obtained their Totin-Chip.

Log Landing Camp has been under the operation of the Boy Scouts of Effingham since its purchase in 1944 and has offered boys a close-by camp to experience the outdoors and learn valuable traits for use in life. The camp is located at the Ebenezer Creek and both sides of the Log Landing Road.

The Ebenezer Creek borders the camp to the west and south and this creek, when flowing, offers Scouts the opportunity to practice canoeing, kayaking and swimming skills. At present the creek is not flowing as a result of drought-like conditions and because the nearest dam of the Savannah River is restricting flow downstream.

During the summer when the creek is flowing boys in all Effingham Scout units have the opportunity to earn a patch sponsored by Springfield United Church Troop 295, which meets at Camp KT Wallace on Highway 17 south of Guyton.
