'Mega-load' to cause delays on Ebenezer, 21

POSTED: February 21, 2013 7:47 p.m.

The state Department of Transportation is advising of delays on Ebenezer Road and Highway 21 in Effingham County this weekend.

A 941,840-pound deaerator will be moved from Plant McIntosh in Rincon to Plant Vogtle in Waynesboro this weekend. Beginning Friday morning, the 18-foot wide, 235-foot-long load will travel from Effingham County to Screven County. Saturday morning, the mega-load will continue to Burke County.

During this time and along the routes, traffic will be slow or even stopped at some points due to the excessive size of the load.

The load will have police escorts and moving message boards warning of traffic interruptions.

The mega-load is two lanes wide. Motorists should exercise extreme caution in its vicinity and follow instructions from the law enforcement escort. The mega-load will move 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, weather permitting.
