YMCA to celebrate Healthy Kids Day

POSTED: April 12, 2012 9:26 p.m.

The YMCA of Coastal Georgia is celebrating Healthy Kids Dayon April 28 with a free community event for kids and families in Coastal Georgia. More than 1,900 Ys across the country are taking part in the celebration, meant to kick start physical activity and learning throughout the summer.

Healthy Kids Day, a national initiative of the Y to improve the health and well-being of kids, is filled with fun, active play and educational activities that will help parents improve their kids’ lifestyles for the long term. Research shows that without access to activities that stimulate the mind and body, kids are more prone to gain weight and fall behind academically over the summer months.

The Y’s national event will take place at all YMCA of Coastal Georgia branches and will feature activities such as healthy snacks, family activities, classic field day events, and the grand opening of YMCA pools for the summer.

This year the event will also serve as open house for each location and the kick off of the Y’s one-week-only special offer.

From April 28-May 5 there will be no joiner’s fee or contract required for new memberships to the Y.
