Rincon United Methodist Church held a special Girl Scout Sunday service March 10. Twenty girls participated in the service, which gave them an opportunity to think about their faith and remember the beginning of Girl Scouts. Girl Scouts began March 12, 1912, when Juliette Gordon Low officially registered the organization’s first 18 members in Savannah.

During the service, 19 Brownies throughout Effingham County were recognized for their efforts in completing the God and Me award. Pastor Carol Morgan and Troop Leader Monica Harris worked with the girls a few weeks prior to develop a deeper relationship with God and to understand how God is active in their lives and in the world around them. The God and Me award is a religious program offered to young people by Programs of Religious Activities with Youth (PRAY). PRAY is a not-for-profit organization with a mission to "foster the Christian growth of children, youth, and families through churches and youth serving agencies." The girls completed step one in a journey that could potentially help them with college tuition.
