EMS kids rock the finish line at Savannah half marathon

Ebenezer Middle School’s running club, led by Mark Weese, center, had two runners, Noah McIntosh and Marina Van Sickle, finish the Savannah Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon.

Ebenezer Middle School eighth-graders Noah McIntosh and Marina Van Sickle, along with EMS coach Mark Weese, competed in their first half marathon, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon and Half Marathon in Savannah on Nov. 3. Weese ran an impressive 1:27:59, placing 45th overall out of 11,131 half marathon participants. He finished in 14th place for his age group.

McIntosh ran a 1:39:48, taking third place for his age group and placing 313th overall.

Van Sickle took first place in her age group with a time of 1:45:09 and placed 647th overall. Both McIntosh and Marina are from Rincon and are in their second year of running with the Ebenezer Running Club under the direction of Weese. McIntosh began running last year when Weese started the running club, while Van Sickle has been running since the third grade.

Both have competed in numerous 5Ks around the Savannah area, but the Rock ‘n’ Roll is the longest race either of them has run.
