Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. has awarded more than $250,000 in scholarships to 16 children of employees at the company’s sites in California, Georgia, Texas and Wisconsin. The students were recognized at a special event at Gulfstream’s Savannah headquarters.

Each year, children of Gulfstream employees who plan to attend an accredited educational institution or technical school can compete for one of four annual scholarships: the Gulfstream Goldie Glenn Scholarship, the Susan and Fred Breidenbach Scholarship, the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) Scholarship and the Gulfstream/Rolls-Royce 50th Anniversary Scholarship.

Holly Nance, a graduate of Effingham County High School, was one of the winners of the Gulfstream Goldie Glenn Scholarship. She plans to attend Armstrong Atlantic State University to study graphic design.

Maci Lauren Lorenz, a graduate of South Effingham High School, won the Savannah College of Art and Design Scholarship.

“Gulfstream is like a family, and that’s why I am especially honored to recognize the outstanding academic achievements of the talented sons and daughters of Gulfstream employees,” said Ira Berman, senior vice president, Administration and General Counsel, Gulfstream. “Hopefully, these scholarships will help these young men and women to excel as they pursue their academic and professional careers.”

The Gulfstream Goldie Glenn Scholarship, worth $2,000 a year and renewable for up to four years, is named for Albert H. “Goldie” Glenn, a former Gulfstream vice chairman who began his career as an aviation mechanic and spent 52 years in the industry.

The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) Scholarship was awarded as a half scholarship, paying for full tuition, but no housing or meals. The scholarship is renewable each year based on academic and disciplinary requirements. While the other scholarships are awarded every year, this scholarship can be used by only one student at a time.

The Gulfstream/Rolls-Royce 50th Anniversary Scholarship program was established by Rolls-Royce North America Inc. for sons and daughters of Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. employees.

The annual competition is conducted through the National Merit Scholarship Program by the National Merit Scholarship Corp., an independent, not-for-profit organization. Each Gulfstream/Rolls-Royce 50th Anniversary Scholarship stipend is $1,500 per year for up to four years of college undergraduate study or until baccalaureate degree requirements are completed, whichever occurs first.
