4-H State Congress brings 4-H’ers from all over the state of Georgia together for the opportunity to compete at the State level.  After a first-place achievement at State Congress, they are considered a “Master” 4-H’er.  Mastering in a project area or in a special event is the ultimate goal for 4-H’ers. Through project achievement, 4-H’ers gain public speaking, resume building and interview skills by presenting a portfolio of accomplishments and a demonstration based in their project area.

The 2012 State Congress was held July 24-27 at the Crowne Plaza Ravinia in Atlanta with the announcement of winners held at the Crystal Pistol in Six Flags over Georgia. Natalie Starling of Effingham County competed in the Performing Arts General Project. She is a senior at SEHS and the daughter of Skip and Dr. Nathalie Starling.

Master 4-H’er Lauren Thompson was recognized at the State Congress Annual Banquet as a special event winner for the Senior Hunt Seat Division. Thompson is the daughter of Mike and Laura Thompson and is a senior at South Effingham High School.

Effingham County 4-H agent Abby Smith also attended the event.
