More than 100 South Effingham Middle School students joined others around the county and country in celebrating See You at the Pole on Sept. 26.

“Awaken” was this year’s theme for See You at the Pole. The SEMS Y-Club handed out free donuts and See You at the Pole bracelets to the first 100 attendees.

“Supported by students, friends, family and staff members, the SEMS FCA leadership team did an outstanding job of hosting the event,” said Y-Club Advisor Beverly Donaldson.

See You at the Pole brings students to their school flagpoles to pray for their leaders, schools and families, asking to bring moral and spiritual awakening to their campuses and countries. SYATP is a student-initiated and student-led movement that started in Fort Worth, Texas in, 1990. It originated with just one youth group, who met at night, at several schools in their area during a week-long retreat.

“Now, millions of teenagers meet for See You at the Pole in all 50 states,” Donaldson said. “Internationally, reports come from countries on six continents, including Congo, Bahamas, Germany, Ghana, Guam, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Norway, Peru, Romania, Singapore, Australia, Canada and South Africa.”
