Two of the county's top students were honored Thursday at the Rotary Club of Effingham County’s STAR student and teacher luncheon at the Effingham College and Career Academy.

Liam Bendig is the class of 2014 STAR student for South Effingham High School. Harrison Cowart is Effingham County High School’s STAR student.

The senior who has the highest SAT score and is also in the top 10 percent of the graduating class is named the school’s STAR student.

Bendig also was recognized as the STAR student for all of Effingham County.

Cowart chose as his STAR teacher Angie Murphey, who taught him in elementary and middle school.

Bendig selected SEHS science teacher Brian Witrick as his STAR teacher.
